As long as we are talking about best and worst coaches, here's another thread that I'm not sure has come up, what coaches out there are the hardest on the refs?
Although I have seen some very funny things in my time as I'm sure we all have, some of the best coach/referee interactions I've seen have come from Steve Grimit, the head coach at Saint Cloud State University. I have seen him absolutely abuse the ref, sometimes carrying on a 10-30 minute conversation with himself while walking the side of the mat, but it's loud enough so the ref could hear, about a bad call in his opinion. An abnsolute delight to watch and listen to.

As a FILA official, I find it a disgrace the way the coaches talk to the officials. It is the reason that I do not wear the "Zebra" suit. I would rather walk around looking like a bad "Good Humor" man than have to deal with the utter bullshiite that goes on Matside in college nad high school. Most NCAA officials officiate for the money. The same reason these officials do not wear whites(cause they don't get paid.) I would rather pay my own way, then have to deal with the dolt mentioned in the previous posting and many others. I have thought about donning the stripes, then I watch a high school or college match and think otherwise.Go to Top of Page

You have a strange (or at least different) idea of what constitutes a delightful experience. I've always found that unpleasant to be around.Go to Top of Page

Did anyone see two years ago at Vegas when the coach jumped on the back of the ref(zigman), and started to choke him out? Ziggy was assistant, and the head ref stopped the match and just started laughing. I have no idea who the coach was.

I will make this short..it is funny though..I was officiating a local freestyle tournament in Tucson, AZ on a Saturday AM...the kids were no more than 6 years old and 40lbs..one kid, had the other kid in a headlock position, pinning him, I mean I am 2 feet from the kids, looking into the pinned kids eyes, making sure he is OK, doing my job right...he is scared, cause he is getting pinned..I mean how tight can a 5 yr old kid keep a headlock??..When all of a sudden I get Barrelled over by this rather, I mean very, rotund Lady...It is his mother....She starts yelling at me, "my son, he is choking to death and pulls the other kid off her son" I called the pin and laughed..It was the craziest thing that has ever happened to me on the matGo to Top of Page

I had to give her two for back exposure. I then DQ'd her for wearing heels on the mat.
