I saw this thread on the "Oklahoma Forum" message board and thought it was interesting in that no matter how hard coaches try to put together the best team possible, you can't please everyone. The team Randel put together last year won the Junior Duals, took 3rd at Cadets and yet there were people that were unhappy.  Every state that competes in Duals or Fargo is going to have some disappointed kids (and parents) so I posted this thread to let you know that Washington is not alone!  I liked WrestlingMoms post about being on both the short and long end of the stick.

Wonder if   <>

If you go to the Freestyle page you can see where Archie Randel post all the "rules". Wonder if he will follow them himself this next season? He, with several boys last year, had them pull to a weight they in fact did not qualify for during all the qualifiers for the two big shows. (Enid, Fargo) This was upsetting to the boys that did take the time to follow the "rules" and also took the time to get down to that weight several times during the summer. Then Randel comes in with a few hand choosen boys and allows them (and even ordered some of them) to pull to a weight they infact NEVER qualified for when they were supposed to. Just wondering if he will stick to the rules himself this summer?

Mind telling me WHO did not get to go to Fargo due to SOMEONE dropping weight and taking that slot? Freestyle isn't school league and Archie is "The Numero Uno Samari" and if you don't like then go compete with some whimpy state like Texas or Kansas or Missouri. As for Enid: Archie intends to put the BEST team on the mat and he really doesn't care if you or your wife gets mad.

RE:wonder if...............funny how any kind of a negative comment about Mr. Randall's program brings out the El Reno wrath online. Good thing it's a free country, and that we all have freedom of speech to say what we think, or in this case to post it. Just remember that NOBODY is perfect not even Mr. Randall as I am sure he would have to agree. So go ahead all you El Reno posters, take your best shots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And to Wondering if, don't take nothing personal on this GREAT forum! They always like to come back at you like your kid just wasn't good enough and you are just wanting to blame someone or some thing. My question is why don't they ever give their e-mail adresses when they re: a post??? HMMMMMMMMMMM??? They threatened me one time by encouraging everyone to flood my e-mail box with junk, but that just shows you something about their mentality. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, "hey"...point well taken and very true. What's your answer on the education problem in Oklahoma? I hate to resort to another form of gambling to solve our problems. Seems that's a temporary bandaide and not a very good one. Without sound economic infrastructure the problem will only get worse: the welfare dollar can only buy so many lottery tickets. I think we should tax the current gambling halls run by the Native Americans and work on bringing in high paying CAREERS to Oklahoma. Anybody else got an idea? As for my email or lack thereof...I just don't want to list it. That doesn't make my points less valid. I think Archie does an EXCELLENT job with OKUSA wrestling...and, if you don't like it then don't do it or go to another state; he'd probably release the kid to get rid of the parent. I haven't always liked Archie's decisions when it came to my kid; and, the one I disliked the most my kid accepted as being the BEST decision for the team; but, I admire Archie and what he's done for the state and what he has helped my son ultimately achieve.

No doubt about it, in my opinion Mr. Randall IS the best wrestling coach in OK and MUST also be one of the best in the nation. But I don't have any national experience to compare him to anyone else. I hope you El Reno faithful know that I was just taking a playful jab at the response that was given to the "wonder if" poster (LOLOL). Sometimes when a poster is questioning a particular event, I think they are just frustrated with certain teams and coaches winning all the time. Kinda like Jenks football. If I had it to do all over again with my boys, I would have started them younger and never moved away from B.A. or if they were good enough moved to El Reno instead of Catoosa. However the education that they recieved in the Catoosa Schools has been good enough to get them to College and that is way more important than their sports abilities.

Hey wreslting mom (mom says it all does it not?),just a few things. NO, my kid was not the one "put out". And you dont get "put out" of a spot for Fargo. (Shows what she knows) I do however know several boys personally that were TOLD they needed to go down to a weight at the last second and they had never qualified for that weight. Next, although I too think A. Randal is one of the best coaches around and wants to put the best on the mat. BUT, nobody, no matter how good they are, is above the rules. INCLUDING A. Randal. How can he expect these boys to take him seriously about the "rules" when he himself does not set a good example? If he puts the best team on the mat but does that by breaking the rules....well, that is called cheating in some peoples eyes. I know that two of these boys are not going to even go to Enid and may not go to Fargo unless they can go unattached. They just dont like being lied to is all. AND yes we need these two I am talking about. A Randal has been blessed with a large number of boys to choose from at many weights where he can afford to be a little co-ky and maybe tell one of them, "fine, we dont need you". But the day will come that OK is not soo deep in each cl@ss and then what will he do? Not to mention, Archie does not coach these OK studs in the summer. Yes he coaches his group, but in the summer, the team is made up of boys from all over the state and these boys are coached by their respective coaches. So, A. Randal cant take credit for their ability nor can you give A. Randal the credit for them. Now, go wash the dishes! Because 10 to 1 you have NEVER busted your bottom on a wrestling mat with blood sweat and tears to find you are moved or bumped because a man in charge just wanted it that way and broke the "rules".

Re: in the know   <>

In the know, I don't have a whole lot of solutions other than signing new bills and creating new taxes, but nobody wants to be taxed any more than they already are (and I don't blame them). I do know that OK is one of the few states remaining that has a State income tax. And I never really stopped to think where that money goes. I have some a$$umptions, but based on the condition of some highways, I may be wrong. I would tend to agree with you on the casinos being taxed. There are a lot of "non"-Native Americans that have jobs or benefit from them. You're right about the lottery, and lottery money is rarely accounted for after a few years; ask some Texans.

Gee...I guess I got you a little peaved. To address some of your points: I took your being upset about the boys being made to pulling down to a weight they didn't qualify for to compete at in Enid and Fargo as being bumped....my bad. I do know there are only so many spots per weight for Fargo. And, the Enid team is selected. And for the record but without going into great revealing detail we've been on the short end of the stick in Archie administering the rules as deemed best. I didn't like it but that was just how it was. We've also been on the long end of the stick too. And, yes, you are absolutely correct: Archie does NOT coach each and every boy...they are split up into groups and someone else actually coaches them. Archie is as much or more administrator than coach. And you are right: Archie can't take credit for my son's ability any more than I can take credit for it. I believe God gets the credit for the talent and for providing him with the desire to work hard. But, Archie has provided an environment in which he has been able to improve and be challenged. And, you are correct, I have never busted my butt on a wrestling mat nor have I had sweat running down my eyes but my son has...and he was once "bumped" but I didn't get on here cryin' about it and I'm not cryin' about it now...it happened and we're "over" any misgivings. Now...I must get to my dishes, plow the garden, milk the cows and slop the hogs...see ya in Enid and Fargo!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wonder If. I don't break the rules. I do manipulate the gray areas. USA Wrestling rules are very complicated, we try to get as many kids qualified as possible. USAOK tries to get every wrestlers who wants to go to the nationals the opportunity. We do want to put our best wrestlers on the mat at the right weights at the Nationals. The object is to show the nation that Oklahoma has the top wrestlers in the nation. Qualifying for the teams allows them the opportunity to go. Before and at camp we have about 20-25 drops in the two styles and divisions. We make adjustments as a staff to create better opportunities for the athletes. Be a little more specific about me breaking the rules. I am at every tournament I will be glad to discuss any issues you have. Oklahoma is one of the best wrestling states in the nation. USA Oklahoma Wrestling tries to give our athletes the best opportunity to shine. I am not the reason that we win at Nationals. Its our kids, parents, coaches and tradition that makes us successful.

sick of the griping!   <>

I'd bet that none of the people criticizing Coach Randall would like to even attempt the huge job he has organizing our National events and keeping our Oklahoma wrestling program one of the top in the Nation! The cream of the crop wrestlers rise to the top, and withOUT needing coaches to cheat for them. If they are the best, they wouldn't need Coach Randall or any other coach to cheat to get them on the National team or on the Dual Team, their performance would speak for itself. I seriously doubt that Randall or any of the other "governing body" of Oklahoma coaches would boot out the best wrestler for someone else, or compromise the best situation for the team . And by the way,as far as not qualifying at certain weights and then wrestling at those weights, just go to your coach or to Randall and ASK them WHY little so and so was allowed to wrestle at that weight. I'm sure they will be happy to explain the rules to you!! Our family appreciates all the work that Coach Randall and all the other Oklahoma coaches put into summer wrestling. We realize that they are doing it for the kids, not for the money!! They spend numerous hours with our kids, taking away from their time with their families and their own lives. The committment that they show is a great example for our boys, and we should all show them a little more appreciation and trust that they are doing what is best for the kids. We have spent more time than I'd like to admit around summer wrestling, and have NEVER witnessed any cheating or any actions not in the wrestlers/teams best interest. You might want to verify the rules (there are more than you'd imagine) before accusing a coach of wrong doing, you'd probably be very suprised that they were acting totally within the rules, even if it wasn't something YOU wanted them to do!
